6-21-2006 ~ Tommy's Death

June 21, 2006, Thomas "Tommy" Ottis (Woods) Blade died while at work on the Army Depot Plant in Minden, LA after suffering a heart attack; his first and only one. Dad possibly suffered from diabetes and did not tell us; though he did tell his daughter, Renee (me), that he needed to go to the hospital and get checked out but did not state why; even after being asked.

This conversation took place about 1 week before he died. Renee was asking dad if he had life insurance and where he wanted to be burried while in conversation about health and life. Dad stated that he wanted to be burried in Haughton, LA but doesn't mind if we wanted to burry him in Greenville, MS either.

In the beginning of that conversation, Renee encouraged her dad to get a prostate test done and he stated tht he needed that and then some.

Dad was congested for a few days and was sick. His girlfriend gave him tomatoe soup the night of the 20th. She also wanted him to call into work but he instead went to work and after being there for about an hour or so, he felt hot and weak. His friends took him into the breakroom and gave him some water and a wet towel. He was told to go home but dad said he needed the money for his truck insurance and said that if he continued to feel bad, he'll go home.
After going to the machine he was working on, his partner walked around the machine checking it out, which takes about 5 minutes. By the time his friend made his way back around, Tommy was already on the floor, but alive. Friends called 911 and a nurse that works on the plant. The male nurse got on a four-wheeler to make his way to that building and an ambulance was on their way. He was being held by his friend nick-named "6-9" because that's how tall he is.
Dad's heart stopped and another man began to do CPR. The nurse came on the scene and then the ambulance. He was taken to Minden Medical Center and shocked. No one ever got a pulse.
He was burried in Haughton, LA in Haughton City Cemetery.
